Descriptions of Classes

 

SAB CHOIR

This is a non-audition group for all students who are interested in singing.  This group will sing music that ranges from two to four voice parts in varying difficulty levels of music.  The students will also work to better their sight-reading skills.  The students of this group will be encouraged to work in small groups on separate numbers and on solo material for contest.  The students are welcome to audition for any of the other groups, and can be involved in more than one choir.  This group will be required to perform in all of the concerts.  They may have other obligations throughout the year.

 

CHORALE

This is an audition group for all women who are interested in more challenging music.  This group will sing music that ranges from three to six voice parts in varying difficulty levels of music.  The students will also work to better their sight-reading skills.  The women of this group will be encouraged to work in small groups on separate numbers and on solo material for contest.  The women are welcome to audition for any of the other groups, and can be involved in more than one choir.  This group will be required to perform in all of the concerts.  They may have other obligations throughout the year.

 

CONCERT CHOIR

This is a group for all men and women who are interested in singing.  This group will sing music that ranges from four to eight voice parts in varying difficulty levels of music.  The students will also work to better their sight-reading skills.  The men and women of this group will be encouraged to work in small groups on separate numbers and on solo material for solo/small ensemble contest.  The men and women are welcome to audition for Swing Choir, and can be involved in more than one choir.  This group will be required to perform in all of the concerts and the Distract Choir music contest.  They may have other obligations throughout the year. 

 

SWING CHOIR

This is an audition group for all men and women who are interested in singing more challenging music and dancing.  This group will sing music that ranges from four to eight voice parts in varying difficulty levels of music.  The students will also work to better their sight-reading skills.  The men and women of this group will be required to work in small groups on separate numbers and on solo material for contest.  The men and women are required to be a member of Concert Choir.  This group will be required to perform in all of the concerts, recruitment activities, and in music contest.  They may have other obligations the throughout year.

APPRECIATION OF MUSICALS

This is an elective class in the area of fine arts.  Appreciation of Musicals will analyze Hollywood’s portrayal of musical, historical, and social events.  Be aware that this class will involve homework, papers, and tests.  Attendance is critical to ensure success in this class.

 

MUSIC HISTORY

Any student who wishes to learn the fundamentals of music history with no required outside performances (there will be required singing in class) is invited to enroll.  This class will meet half of the fine arts requirement for graduation.  A student may take this class only once.

 

MUSIC THEORY/VOCAL METHODS

Any student who wishes to learn the fundamentals of choral singing and music theory with no required outside performances (there will be required singing during class) is invited to enroll.  This class will meet half of the fine arts requirement for graduation.  A student may take this class only once.
