Welcome to English I and II!
Greetings! My name is Megan Howard and I am proud to have been a Panther for the past eight years. I hold a Bachelors of Science degree in English from Missouri Valley College ('08) and a masters degree from William Woods University ('14) in School Administration.
I look forward to a wonderful year in English I and English II, as I truly enjoy each and every day that I am blessed to spend with my students. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities to discover more about the world we currently live in, and the manner in which reading and literature help us to navigate that life. In our classroom, we read together, laugh together, support one another, and work together to gain not only a better understanding of our craft, but also of ourselves.
In English II we have already navigated our way through To Kill a Mockingbird, and we are currently working on short stories and the themes which authors convey through them. We will end this unit, and the quarter, with a final writing piece that will utilize literary technique and the primary methods of characterization which authors use to reveal a character's personality.
English I is currently exploring Ray Bradbury's dystopian world of Fahrenheit 451. We are delving into character analysis, as well as comprehension of the novel's central ideas and themes. Students are intrigued by the keen predictions that Bradbury penned throughout the novel; the examination of technology and humanity's use of it is a hot topic on a daily basis. The unit will culminate in an analysis essay of the novel's main character(s).
As always, please let me know if you ever have any questions or concerns about your student and their progress in class. I look forward to serving you and your family this year!
